Yesterday, I received my most recent issue of Bead and Button magazine. It has a great article/tutorial written by a jewelry artist named Jima Abbott on how to make your own metal beadcaps. I was not familiar with him, so I did a search and found some images of his jewelry with his beautifully crafted beadcaps. Supposedly he has a website, but when I type in the url, no luck. I would love to see more of his work. Anyway, here are a few images I found on the web when I did a search….
And take a look at this pendant below. It looks like the bead is made completely of metal-and notice the elaborate beadcap. The tutorial in Bead and Button shows you how to make a decorative beadcap..perhaps not as ornate as this one, but you will get the idea of how it is done.
Supposedly his website is www.mixedmetaljewels.com. When I pull it up, it says it’s under construction. I hope that’s the case and that it goes live soon….anyway, if you have been wanting to learn how to make your own beadcaps, this is a great article and I am happy to have discovered a new metal artist, Jima Abbott..

I’ve never heard of this artist before…and alas my subscription to Bead and Button has run out….I’ll have to look for this issue at the store (or bring it with you when we get together?)
Those are fabulous! I am going to pick up a copy tomorrow! If you find more information on this artist, please pass it along! Happy New Year, Jeanette!
Those pieces look gorgeous!
Wow! These are stunning. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing, Jeanette.
Wow, Jeanette, thanks for sharing this. His work really appeals to me.
I have been a fan of Jim and Carlie Abbott for years. I’ve followed them at the Kings Mountain Art Fair in Woodside, CA, where they are familiar fixtures every year. I own a piece of their work and asked about classes. Jim was teaching and I think his studio is in No. Ca. I’ve been on their mailing list and am passing on their contact info.
Jim and Carlie Abbott, P.O. Box 141, Casper, CA 95420. Jim’s email is: jica@mcn.org.
Now, I’m not sure this is still current info, but this is from a flyer I have for their 2008 show schedule.
Good luck…their work is even more beautiful, interesting and unique in person. A lot of those metal beads rotate and move…very cool!
Holy cow but that’s gorgeous!
Great post! I hope the website is completed and launched soon!
I have some of his jewelry and the work is beautiful.
